Why Did The Iranians Take The British Soldiers Hostage?

The recent UN resolutions threatening further economic sanctions essentially marking the end of years of worthless European negotiations over Iran's nuclear weapon ambitions promised no further ability of the crazy Iranians cover to continue their covert work. So, they needed to renew the process.

So why not go back to the beginning. Take the British sailors hostage, promise to put them on trial with the implicit threat of potential public executions and then appear reasonable and work out this problem diplomatically. Then the Iranians can say, 'see, our problems can be addressed diplomatically.'

So, this will split the West on our approach to Iran giving them more-and-more time for them to develop a nuclear weapon. Remember, after Iran get the bomb, they have said that they will wipe Israel off the face of the map.... and then, after the West [actually this will be Europe and if the Democrats are in power in the US] has sacrificed Israel in a fit of appeasement thinking that if we allow these crazies to do that they will leave us alone and no longer will threaten us.

This is unfortunately a recipe for disaster. As Winston Churchill said...
“What is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory. Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terrors, victory, however long and hard the road may be. For without victory, there is no survival.”
And also the WC classic on the problems of appeasement...
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last"
Europeans are fooling themselves if they think that they can appease the crazies in Iran. The short-term gain for them is that they can still do economic trade with Iran but the cost to them will be incredibly high in the not-so-distant future.
