J.C. WATTS: Why is the Tea Party on a roll? - Opinion - ReviewJournal.com
"Finally, when the state, on the eve of ruin, maintains only a vain, illusory and formal existence, when in every heart the social bond is broken, and the meanest interest brazenly lays hold of the sacred name of 'public good,' the general will becomes mute: all men, guided by secret motives, no more give their views as citizens than if the state had never been; and iniquitous decrees directed solely to private interest get passed under the name of laws."The beauty of the American people, is that have not kept silent as the leviathan has grabbed hold of American existence. As the leviathan increasingly seeks only to serve its own self, it dictates what to do, what to think and how to behave. However, as Rousseau penned, it is sold as 'for the public good.' As we know in his time, the bloody French Revolution was brewing and we thankfully have a large segment of the population willing to work within the current political system. However, we have to be aware and vigilant that this may not last and that significant and violent conflict may result as the leviathan seeks to shut down a popular uprising.
-Jean Jacques Rousseau, 18th century French philosopher-
The above quote was taken from a piece written by J.C. Watts, former congressman from Oklahoma.
