Absurdity of the day.....
“The mean-spirited bill, HR 1 . . . eliminates the National Endowment of the Humanities, National Endowment of the Arts,” said Senator Reid. “These programs create jobs. The National Endowment of the Humanities is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy-poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.”Well, the people would still exist, but the subsidy for this non-sense would not. The cowboy poetry jamboree or whatever it is called may or may not exist but I suspect that the poetry will still exist. And I think that there will still be an active and vibrant cowboy poetry life and assuming that it brings pleasure and value to people, then it will continue to exist at some level. Of it ceases to exist, suddenly, then one has to assume that for people that value and enjoy this that it is not valuable or enjoyable enough for them to contribute to its existence. Funny to consider that some activities have to exist and live on their merits.
However, what this little look at the government that we have created serves to accomplish is that we now see one that is almost completely out of control and one that has no idea what its role is and how to approach the business of being a good government. Time to end it now and start over.
