McCain: Allow Treasury to Buy Worthless House Seats....

(2008-09-30) — Sen. John McCain said he would introduce a revised version of the failed $700 billion financial-sector bailout bill in the Senate this week expanding the powers of the Treasury Secretary by allowing him to buy up not only junk mortgage securities, but also worthless seats in the House and Senate.

“The real crisis we face is that the value of the property we call Capitol Hill has cratered,” said Sen. McCain, “And still, the house is worth a lot more than its occupants.”

Under the McCain amendment, the U.S. Treasury Secretary could “rescue” American taxpayers by buying out so-called “junk lawmakers” — those who encouraged the government intervention in free markets that led to the current crisis.

Asked how he thinks the public will respond to the plan, the GOP presidential nominee said, “I think Americans will be for closing those offices.”
