Thought of the day.....
...freedom and property are closely linked: separate property from private possession, and Leviathan becomes master of all.Seems like an appropriate thing to think about in these times. We will all lose our freedoms in return for some kind of benefit like 'healthcare." Ha hah ha. If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny.
-Russell Kirk, political philosopher-
More, on Kirk: He developed six "canons" of conservatism:
1. A belief in a transcendent order, which Kirk described variously as based in tradition, divine revelation, or natural law;Kirk believed that Christianity and Western Civilization are "unimaginable apart from one another" and that all culture arises out of religion. As I see now in large swathes of the United States, particularly the uber-Liberal northeast, Chicago and California where religion and God is now banned from much of public life, Kirk thought that when religious faith decays, culture must decline, though often seeming to flourish for a space after the religion which has nourished it has sunk into disbelief. This is what is happening in the US. Many American now worship the 'golden calf' in Washington and have a new Messiah as embodied in the President. They will be sorely disappointed.
2. An affection for the "variety and mystery" of human existence;
3. A conviction that society requires orders and classes that emphasize "natural" distinctions;
4. A belief that property and freedom are closely linked;
5. A faith in custom, convention, and prescription, and
6. A recognition that innovation must be tied to existing traditions and customs, which entails a respect for the political value of prudence.
When I asked my biological father why don't churches open clinics in inner cities if there is such an overwhelming need, he said, "They have no money." No, what they have is no faith.
5 Comments:
I think both you and your biological father were wrong in this matter. I googled "church health clinic" (without quotes) and came up with over 26 million hits! Looks like even if the government has money, the churches have faith!
if churches can meet this need, then why is it so necessary to have the dead hand of a central government do it all over again?
Besides, I suspect its largely Southern Christians and Evangelicals that provide these services. These are communities have continued in the traditional American way of life. When I lived in Africa, it was the largely the Southerners that were doing works there. Rarely does one meet a Liberal from California or the Northeast USA doing much other than whining that government should do X, Y and Z.
If you Google what Anonymous originally said, you'll see that these clinics are all over the country and sponsored by churches of every type. These churches are doing the best they can but there are still millions of people without proper health care.
I have to say, that comments like the previous on annoys me to no end. Sounds like the effet arguments that my biological parents constants blabber on about.
Like who does not have proper healthcare? The 45 million that democrats constantly talk about to justify another intrusion in the market place that will prove to be a total disaster? Is it the poor that do not have access to healthcare? They are covered under Medicare. But the problem is that there is a shortage of supply for these people. doctors have a hardtime supplying these people under government set prices and rules. A takeover by the government will only lead to less supply while the government gives people the false promise of 'covering' them. We will die in government run cockroach infested hospitals with much less than the average person has today in 20 years.
