As I have written about here, Swiftboating has proven to be an effective campaign tactic. But my question is, why does this differ from being called a smear? Probably because a smear is a dishonest attack on an opponent and a Swiftboating has embedded in it, not falsities but truths. Recent smearings of Clinton opponent Barak Obama do not rise to the level of Swiftboating.
