Americans Are Despondent....

One of the big challenges coming back to the US for a visit is that people here are becoming increasingly irritating in their whining and complaining. I hear constant whinging over the price of gas, the perceived decline in good paying jobs, and the stories over the the travails of the everyday person trying to make ends meet. I was even condescendingly accused today of not understanding the incredible plight facing Americans since i live overseas and do not see first hand. As if the view from the suburbs of America is one that is so frightening.

So, then why do foreigners STILL invest heavily in the US? Is there something there that they are missing?

As you can see from the above, investment in the US continues to grow strongly and this implies that investment will create jobs and wealth for those that live here. One can read the report here. Stupid foreigners. Don't they know that they should hate the US as much as American Democrats do?

I, unfortunately, have to listen to the whining of Democrats that both disparage the effectiveness of our American government and also want it to become even more responsible for delivering both essential and non-essential services through its incapable hands. Every time I come here, I worry that I just won't be able to stand all idiotic crap that spews out of people's mouths in New York and consider never returning.

It shows a propensity to buy US assests in bad shape. Nothing more.

How do you know that the assets that foreigners are buying are in bad shape? In the 90's foreigners doubled their holdings of US assets and have again doubled their holdings since then. Is there some statsistics that I am missing since it seems to me that they have been buyers in good times and in bad and there is not a striking correlation with any kind of economic direction evident in the chart cited.

I argue that they are believers in the US whereas Americans have become fat little government entitlement whores. Looking for their next easy handout. Kind of heading towards becoming more like the lazy Europeans.
