Problem here may be part definition, but if one argues that conservatives are more brittle in their world views, who is to say that those brittle views are truly more brittle.

Hayek warning on the slippery slope of legislation that chips away at personal liberty....
Not only is liberty a system under which all government action is guided by principles, but it is an ideal that will not be preserved unless it is itself accepted as an overriding principle governing all particular acts of legislation. Where no such fundamental rule is stubbornly adhered to as an ultimate ideal about which there must be no compromise for the sake of material advantages—as an ideal which, even though it may have to be temporarily infringed during a passing emergency, must form the basis of all permanent arrangements—freedom is almost certain to be destroyed by piecemeal encroachments. For in each particular instance it will be possible to promise concrete and tangible advantages as the result of a curtailment of freedom, while the benefits sacrificed will in their nature always be unknown and uncertain.
Human innovation has created gigantic strides in technology and technologies that have allowed people to raise the standards of living around the world. Government's job is to allow for an environment where these innovations can flourish and allow for the millions of decisions made by people as to what is valuable and what is not. However, under the cover of looking out for the people, governments have effectively intervened in the normal distribution of information embedded in market transactions and are intimately involved in deciding who are the winners and losers, what we have access to and what we do not and what we need and what we do not.

As Hayek argues above, the first little necessary step that is argued for, even those that appear critical in an emergency, sets us on a path to the destruction of liberty as this becomes the basis and precedent for the next intervention into our liberty. Each little government intervention into where they should not be will allow for and unconsciously move us towards resultant tyranny.

Imagine how absolutely provocative it is that the central authoritative government THINKS that it has the power, knowledge and ability to compel every single individual to purchase healthcare whether-or-not people think that they need it or want it. Supposedly, it is so important, that government forces this kind of activity upon us. All of this comes from earlier decisions such as one that i mentioned previously detailed by Sowell that disallowed a farmer from growing wheat in his own fields. It amazes me that people allow this kind of nonsense to happen.

RealClearPolitics - Back to the Future?

I am so very sad at the decline of the nation when it comes to the liberty of the people. Past and present Congresses and Presidents have created an environment where they think that they have the right to intervene in almost anything and can compel a citizen to do what they would not do or object to. And as this article elaborates, it is unfortunate that the Supreme Court has upheld these interventions in American's liberty.

The PJ Tatler » A Jew-Free Europe

This is your brain on socialism....
To quote psychiatrist Zvi Rex: “Europe will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz.” Europe doesn’t want to live under the psychological burden of Auschwitz forever. The Jews are living reminders of the moral failure of Europe. This leads to the projection of guilt on Israel and the remaining European Jews.
Nihilism is not an easy life to live I guess. But having no backbone and no traditional morals is easier for Europe these days.

Guest Post: What Is President Obama So Afraid Of? | ZeroHedge

The servitutes of the people will happen if we allow it to happen too....
Time and time again throughout history as once great empires accelerated their declines, governments have taken steps to protect their interests against the people.

In the past, they have imposed curfews, disarmed the population, curtailed civil liberties, and declared national emergencies, usually against some great faceless enemy from abroad who threatens their way of life.

As it turns out, though, our great faceless enemy is not some mythical boogeyman living in a cave, nor some angry brown person who hates us for our freedoms… but the very people within the system who’ve taken an oath to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.’
Socialism, central planning, communism and central government controls have always been destructive and deadly. They will be destructive and deadly in the USA too.

Harry Callahan: I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

The prophetic words of Paul Harvey from 1965 – Glenn Beck

I am not a gigantic fan of Glenn Beck but he is a voice that is worth considering. But this is a story about Paul Harvey, the iconic radio commentator and his prophetic words from 1965.....
“If I were the devil, I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree—Thee. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first—I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.” “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what is good is “square”. And the old, I would teach to pray. I would teach them to pray after me, ‘Our Father, which art in Washington…’

And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors on how to lurid literature exciting, so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the devil I’d soon have families that war with themselves, churches that war that themselves, and nations that war with themselves; until each in its turn was consumed. And with promises of higher ratings I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flame. If I were the devil I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, and neglect to discipline emotions—just let those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

Within a decade I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography—soon I could evict God from the courthouse, and then the schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute psychology for religion, and deify science. I would lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls, and church money. If I were the devil I’d make the symbols of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

If I were the devil I’d take from those, and who have, and give to those wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. What do you bet I could get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich? I would question against extremes and hard work, and Patriotism, and moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging more fun, that what you see on the TV is the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure. In other words, if I were to devil I’d keep on doing on what he’s doing. Paul Harvey, good day.”
Churches have played a critical role in bringing Marxism and progressive ideals to American society, particularly in the Northeast. Supporters of central government interventions in life, they have supported and promoted not only the reduction of responsibility of the people but have made themselves irrelevant by replacing God with the neo-God, leviathan Washington and the head of that leviathan, the Obamessiah.

Why the US government will default on its obligations.....

The government of the US will never be able to pay its obligations to retirees nor will it be able to continue to rack up debts as it is doing today. As we see from the video above, the nation will not be able to afford to make payments on its debt if interest rates rise. If the central bank continues to monetize the nation's debt then we can expect that interest rates will definitely rise and so will inflation.

Inflation is just a tax on people and is foisted upon the citizens by feckless and irresponsible governments. The problems that we face will be largely caused by communist national programs such as social security and national medical programs that are both impossible to manage and are funded through a Ponzi style mechanism that promises no pain today and forces our children to foot the bill tomorrow. This is the legacy of Roosevelt and Johnson era Democrats that lost the vision of a free and sovereign people and set the nation firmly onto the path of servitude to a central government.

Joe Biden calls bin Laden raid the most ‘audacious plan’ in 500 years | The Ticket - Yahoo! News

This is the kind of nonsense that is so embarrassing for Americans. Its not as if the Obamessiah flew there himself on his magic carpet or anything and its not like the American military hadn't been looking for him for 10 year or whatever, but to try to call this the most audicious plan for the past 500 years is mind numbingly stupid......
Biden's comments, made at a Democratic fundraiser in Morris Township, NJ, ranked the May 2011 assault that ended the Al-Qaeda chief's life above the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944, the surprise landing at Inchon in 1950 that turned the tide of the Korean War or, going back a bit further, George Washington's daring night-time crossing of the Delaware River before the Battle of Trenton in 1776.

"You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48% probability that he was there," Biden said, hailing the raid as a shining example of President Barack Obama's leadership.
This is basically the only star on this idiots cap that is worth anything from a foreign policy perspective but to call it the most audacious plan of the past 500 years..... Bwah haahahaha. Are these clowns serious?

Al Qaeda rates Fox News lowest and the other leftist media outlets much higher. Seems like a badge of honor to me. Since most of the traditional media has taken to bashing Christians since there is no risk of retribution and have almost completely ignored Muslim fanaticism not out of respect (otherwise they would respect Christians too) but since I think that they are scared of Muslims.

Europe’s Real Crisis - Magazine - The Atlantic

Euro-style socialism, such as that pushed by American Democrats, as I have argued in the past, is a demographic indulgence. Nations that have adopted socialist programs that unfortunately have been largely unproductive are now paying the price for over-indulging. Central government resources have reached a point now, where they can no longer reasonably service the debt that they have run up in paying for these wasteful programs.

Demographics will ensure that these nations will not and cannot grow fast enough and this headwind coupled with deadening central government regulations and red tape promises to keep growth lower than is necessary to service these debts. Nations will either default on their debt obligations or default on their obligations to their people.

Most of the socialist nations in Europe and also the USA will default on these obligations and the cost of this default on obligations will fall on groups with different effect since at first political considerations and those with access to government such as the wealthy and the elderly will fight to retain what in the first case they have earned and saved and in the second case what they have been promised.

Obama’s troubled handling of Afghanistan - The Washington Post

This could be titled; Fecklessness, stupidity and incompetence is no way to prosecute a war. Why the dopiest President to walk the halls of the seat of American power was ever even considered qualified will be something that I will never understand. Why 40+% of Americans think that this clown is doing a adequate or good job is mystifying. Other than being considered 'black' and therefore historic, a genetic trait, this dumb as rock speech reader is an embarrassment to anyone that considers themselves Americans.

The ObamaCare death spiral continues - HUMAN EVENTS

Central planning and Marxism promoted by the central government leviathan will eventually destroy the way that commerce has been carried out previouslym in this case healthcare but it will be the model for all over interventions. This is the intent since destroying the old way and replacing it will create total dependence upon government and the largesse that it will deliver to the citizens. American citizens will no longer have options, choice or the freedom to make those choices for themselves. Lenin would be very proud how American Democrats managed to grab so much power.,,,,,
Last week, after Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius claimed the private insurance market was in a “death spiral” long before ObamaCare came along, I pointed out that ObamaCare itself is the paramount modern example of a high-speed death spiral. Whatever one might say about the structural deficiencies of private health insurance – which are, in no small part, due to government interference – it’s taken decades for them to reach their current state. ObamaCare, by contrast, began falling apart the minute it passed. Literally billions of dollars have been dropping from its leprous bulk with every passing month.
Failure of centrally planned healthcare will destroy the ability of the market to deliver a reasonably priced product. The intent of the Marxists is to then step in to save the nation. This is dangerous and deadly game that they are playing with your lives.

Also, they is guarantee that future governments will be 'altruistic' or 'fair' in delivering these goods and with the increases in centralized power, I suspect that it will be used to control and subdue the population and reward those that are supportive and punish those that are not.

The Obama Administration's Bold but Risky Plan to Make Africa Gay-Friendly - Robbie Corey-Boulet - International - The Atlantic

Indoctrinating and forcing the rest of the world to embrace progressive ideals.....
Last December, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivered a landmark speech at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, proclaiming that "gay rights are human rights" and announcing the U.S.'s first government-wide policy to push for the decriminalization of homosexuality overseas (the speech coincided with a memorandum issued by President Obama). She vowed "to ensure that our foreign assistance promotes the protection of LGBT rights" but was light on specifics. Within days, newspapers in Liberia -- one of America's closest allies in the region -- were condemning the policy in particular and homosexuality in general.
Democrats are really the extremists here. Holding out foreign aid to poor peoples and shoving these progressive ideals down these people's throats. Why is this important? When Iranians took to the streets years ago during the Arab Spring/Jasmine Revolution, the administration said and did almost nothing. So the old Democratic party as framed by JFK
"We shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
Today's Democratic party is not the Democratic party of previous generations. Today's Democratic party is a party so invested in whacky progressive nonsense and socialism that it will risk destroying the fundamentals of individual responsibility, respect for the family and liberty that made this nation the greatest in the history of man.

How does one create socialism?

Reagan who, in 1961, observed that “One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project.”

China did it by seizing all private property in the 1950's. Within a few years, China was struck by a devasting famine, that was caused, many contend, by a compelte change in incentives. Why work if one does not benefit?

However, as we know, incentives is what creates wealth. Reagan still exists as the simple man that understood intellectually that socialism not only does nto work, but is remarkably destructive....

Henninger: Santorum and Freedom - WSJ.com

Thought of the day....
People could live with big. It's too big that's getting to them. Under the Obama presidency, something outside the norm happened. Amid ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, the $800 billion stimulus injection and a federal spending boom, something snapped in the steady-state relationship between many citizens and Washington. A lot of people feel the government, finally, is really starting to crowd them. It has made them uneasy. For the Santorum audience, the call-and-response word to push back against the unease is "freedom."
Government will ALWAYS grow to big. This is what revolutions and civil wars solve. The current resident of the Whitehouse is not just the face of the leviathan but the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the United States. If he gets re-elected then the nation deserves everything that it gets.

Robert Shiller on Why Home Prices Could Fall for Several Decades

Robert Shiller says that housing prices declined in real terms (adjusted to inflation) for the first half of the 20th century due to changes in technological capabilities. No one knows which new technologies will change the price of new home from both materials and manufacturing standpoints and what new technologies will be offered as a new home. This may create a situation where old homes become less valuable.

Additionally, through incompetent central government planning (also known as socialism) government has created an environment where housing is much more expensive than it would be in a truly free market. This will continue to provide a headwind to the business of building new houses as prices still have not reached market clearing levels. Additionally, central government meddling into these markets will most truly delay new technologies methods and processes that will make the creation of housing for people more efficient and advanced.

Roger’s Rules » James Q. Wilson 1931-2012

Thought of the day....
The Moral Sense is far from being anti-intellectual. But it is, in part, a cautionary tale about the dangers of taking intellectuals, especially academic intellectuals, too seriously. Given the presumption that education will broaden one’s perspective, it is curious that the chief danger is a narrowing of horizons. The peculiar combination of arrogance and despair that seems characteristic of homo academicus today breeds a remarkable obtuseness about many important questions. Wilson puts it thus: “Someone once remarked that the two great errors in moral philosophy are the belief that we know the truth and the belief that there is no truth to be known. Only people who have had the benefit of higher education seem inclined to fall into so false a choice.” It is a sobering thought that last year in the United States, some thirteen million students partook of that benefit.

Liberals Love Death: Population Control, Abortion, Euthanasia - Mr. Conservative

The morally bankrupt left, who the Democrats completely embrace are the party of death and advocates of depopulation. I remember going to Museum of Natural History in New York with my hard-left brother-in-law who wanted the children to see a specific exhibit, an electronic map of population growth over the past thousand years or so. I remarked that it is wonderful that we can support this many billions of people. He was shocked that I thought this.

Democrats and their Malthusian thinking is the ammunition for complete economic and ultimately social control. Its not about liberty its about the brilliance of the left and their intelligent approach to imitate God and order life to fit their narrow vision. So, what about death? These are just a handful of death proposals proffered by today's leftists:
1. Philosophers' claim over moral right to kill newborns sparks outrage; here.
2. Climate ethics and population policy; here.
3. The United Nations Wants To Crash The World Economy In Order To Save The Environment; here. The united Nations is nothing but a bunch of clowns performing in a circus.
4. Eugenics In Action: 3 Year Old Girl Denied Kidney Transplant Because She Is “Mentally Retarded”; here. I argue that a human is a human.
5. Euthanasia squads offer death by delivery; here.
This is not an exhaustive list. But imagine the philosophical moral chasms that have to leaped in order to do these things. Its mystifying to me why these people think that they know what is better for the long-term success of humanity and what directions we should take now to achieve these mystical ends.

Central banks, Sellers of gold at $00 and ounce and then buyers at $1,200 to 1,700 and now buyers of equities? So now we are going to have a global monetization of equities? Its seems like a really really bad idea. If the debt is not goo enough to hold of g-8 countries then how good is equities going to be? Or maybe they think that corporate cash flow is more reliable than the abilities of governments to pay their obligations without trying to debase their currencies? This is not a good sign for prospects around the world and how desperate these government actors are and even how more desperate it will become when their central planning to get the economies turned around fails.

Pundit?

Pundit: The term originates from the Sanskritic term pandit, meaning "learned". It refers to someone who is erudite in various subjects and who conducts religious ceremonies and offers counsel to the king and usually referred to a person from the Hindu Caste System of Brahmins.

From at least the early 19th century, a Pundit of the Supreme Court in Colonial India was an officer of the judiciary who advised British judges on questions of Hindu law. In Anglo-Indian use, pundit also referred to a native of India who was trained and employed by the British to survey inaccessible regions beyond the British frontier.
