The Senate majority leader uses government mysterious accounting methods to argue why Democrats completely ignored tort reform in the government takeover of healthcare.....



All aspects of healtcare cost $2 trillion per year, true, and there is a potential to save a mere $54 billion through tort reform. However, as government numbers work, $54 billion is actually $540 per decade and this compares to the $800 billion or so per decade that the Senate Finance Committee proposal was scored to cost. Seems like a worthwhile pursuit to me.

But the reality is, that the Democrats will never tackle tort reform since trial lawyers are one of the biggest donors to the Democrat party. And remember, that the government takeover of healthcare that was scored to cost $800+ billion will HAVE to be paid for by someone. This will be paid for by you not by the evil rich. We will have so many fewer rich in the near future that all of you liberals should be very proud.

In addition to the direct costs of government intervention we can expect that overall quality will decline and this decline will be dramatic for some. I suspect that there will be less long-term innovation and this will lead to both a decline in the US'es value added leading to less exports and lower future performance of new medicine. Governments tend to freeze innovation at the point of takeover.

The problem with this, is that it is of paramount importance that the press question, forcefully, political agendas and maintain pressure on all politicians. Therefore to have a robust debate within the nation, it takes questioning of BOTH sides by both sides. So the spineless Axelrod administration wants and needs all news organizations to their mouthpieces to sell their Marxist agenda to the American people. The Obamessiah's leftist media model does not promote real news, its propaganda.

Can't handle the heat from FOX News? How are they going to handle the heat from Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria, China et al. They will try get their in-the-pocket press to paint the picture as more rosy. A nuclear bomb explodes above Tel Aviv? How is the press going to paint that... Blame Bush....an improvement in the world? Egads. Additionally, as I see it, FOX has more commentators (pundits) that are supposed to proffer opinions such as Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Greta van Sustern and Glenn Beck in primetime than many of the other news organizations. The rest of the FOX organization remains a reporter of news and I think that it will be difficult to question their integrity.

The big danger here, is that this is first volley from the nation's Democrats that will try to force through the misleading named "fairness doctrine" designed to attempt to squash opposing view points and even news since it will have to pass through a government run filter to create 'fairness.' I also suppose that many frothing at the mouth liberals believe that any non-adulatory reporting on the Obamessiah is not fair too, since it must also be racist.

Just keep in mind that Kim Jong-il is unquestionably the best golfer in the world....

North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il is the best golfer in the world, hands down. On his first ever trip to the golf course, he shot 38-under par, including 5 hole-in-ones! This is reported by the government controlled media. He routinely shoots 3 or 4 hole-in-ones every time out.

Their is only one course in North Korea and it plays to about 7,700 yards, making Jong-il's feat even more impressive. 38-under par on a course longer than almost any in the US = NOT BAD!

Just for fun- it is also important to note that the N. Korean media also reports that Jong-il bowled a perfect game-300, on his first time out bowling!

At about 5'3" and wearing that crazy jump suit of his, this is all very impressive.

I can just imagine what the state-run media (broadcast TV, New York Times, et al)in the US will be declaring as the Obamessiah's victories in diplomacy in the coming years.

Affirmative action comes to the Nobel Prize......

Wikipedia defines Affirmative action as such.....

The terms affirmative action and positive action refer to policies that take race, ethnicity, or gender into consideration in an attempt to promote equal opportunity or increase ethnic or other forms of diversity. The focus of such policies ranges from employment and education to public contracting and health programs. The impetus towards affirmative action is twofold: to maximize diversity in all levels of society, along with its presumed benefits, and to redress perceived disadvantages due to overt, institutional, or involuntary discrimination. Opponents argue that it promotes reverse discrimination.

The highlighted text above is what I think is operative here. As we know, the anti-Bush, The Obamessiah, was awarded the Nobel Peace prize today presumably not due to some long list of accomplishments from a short 9 months in office but some other metric maybe one such as the oft repeated 'hope and change' moniker. But I think that it is kind of new affirmative action.

But there are also implication to reckless decision making even as meaningless as the Nobel Peace prize has become. So, this fantastic turn of events leaves one to wonder about a couple things; firstly, was there no-one else deserving of an award for actual accomplishments? Tough luck for those that were passed over. Why award the PM of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai, the prize for a decade or two of opposition to a destructive and disastrous regime who had to endure prison, beatings and other dirty tricks while doing so peacefully. Nah, its just impoverished Zimbabwe, nobody cares about them. The second concern I have, is it just hope for world peace that is deserving of such an honor since there are probably 10's of thousands of beauty contest contestants that proclaimed that their reign as Miss this-and-that that they would be dedicated to world peace. I wonder then why there has never been a Nobel Peace prize shared by these beneficent beauties previously. I wonder if the distinguished prize panel considered this; jointly awarding the prize to the Obamessiah and the 10's of thousands of beauty contestants that also wished for world peace. I think that this would be true justice.

But I do not think that that this peace prize is one that is actually being positively awarded to the Obamessiah (since it is still a mystery to simple old me as to what the campaigner-in-chief has actually done) but actually to the American people that elected the anti-Bush Obamessiah after the evil reign of the hated and despised W. There are a couple of reasons why I think that this is the case.

First and foremost, is that it is European socialists that are awarding the prize to the newest member of their Marxist cabal. Miserable socialists are never so pleased as when they have newly minted miserable members joining them. European socialists and American Democrats are the among the most miserable people that I have met on the face of the planet. Misery loves company and there is nothing better for these groups than whining together. The other is that Europeans are overtly, institutionally with deep rooted almost involuntary bias against Americans. I am sure that the can-do attitude of the past and cheeky resolve must have driven them completely nuts. This is where the affirmative action comes in. Since Americans are not capable of understanding or comprehending the next level of life as understood by socialist Europe.

I think that it is important to consider that given that Europeans think of themselves as so much more advanced, intelligent and erudite than simple American buffoons, is that this is drives the affirmative action choice where America is being awarded not due to actual accomplishments but because the bar has been set so low in order to promote diversity within the ranks of the Nobel awarded. The attitudes of deeply rooted disgust and hatred that Europeans have for their cheeky neighbors across the Atlantic is the kind of things that affirmative action is thought to compensate for ergo the award. And since the Nobels would never dare to award a 'peace' prize to an American that is right of center, this affirmative action technique is one that allows them to actually award this gift to the US without it actually having achieved anything other than electing a feckless empty suit. Also, this gives Europeans the chance to 'vote' for the 'hope and change' offered by the Obamessiah in his historic election (gag) that they were denied in the election. Now they can claim that they too voted for the 'The One'.

But as far as the Nobel award for peace, all I have to say is wow, what an accomplishment, the Nobles think that this fellow can create peace just by showing up and making a speech. It has creepy in its messianic overtones and since Europe has slid so far away from its Christian past that it needs some kind of spiritual connection which they now find in the Obamessiah. But in fact, Europeans by awarding appeasement, indecisiveness and feckless behavior by an American President, are tacitly promoting and rewarding a behavior that is remarkably similar to the feckless, passive and sclerotic European methods that was the fabric of their do nothing policies over the past several decades.

It all makes perfect sense when one puts on one's cynical hat. And of course, the Libertarian Party has suggested moving the awards to April 1, a far more appropriate date. And of course if the award criteria were adopted by other real disciplines like economics

Going green causing one to go selfish?

Psychologists in Canada have revealed new research suggesting that people who become eco-conscious "green consumers" are "more likely to steal and lie" than others.

"Buying products that claim to be made with low environmental impact can set up 'moral credentials' in people’s minds that give license to selfish or questionable behavior."

From here. I do no think that this kind of psychological effect is limited to just consuming green products and those in the global warming movement. I think that it also extends to the altruism exhibited by Democrats where they think that that by creating all kinds of giveaways for people, that this gives them a license to cheat on other things such as their taxes, for example, as we have seen as of late with Charlie Rangel, Tim Geitner an Tom Dashel.

Also Democrats are stingier than Republicans when it comes to giving to charity....

-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.

Brooks demonstrates a correlation between charitable behavior and "the values that lie beneath" liberal and conservative labels. Two influences on charitable behavior are religion and attitudes about the proper role of government.

The single biggest predictor of someone's altruism, Willett says, is religion. It increasingly correlates with conservative political affiliations because, as Brooks' book says, "the percentage of self-described Democrats who say they have 'no religion' has more than quadrupled since the early 1970s." America is largely divided between religious givers and secular nongivers, and the former are disproportionately conservative. Think about this...

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student, but had once failed an entire class.

The class (students) insisted that socialism worked since no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism."

"All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A."

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had studied very little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who had studied little studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they couldn't make an A, they also studied less. The second Test average was a D.

No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average grade was an F.

To their great surprise all failed. The professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because the harder people try to succeed the greater their reward (capitalism) but when a government takes all the reward away (socialism) no one will try or succeed.

Fiscal stimulus actually has a negative impact on an econmy in many cases.....

And there is some bad news for the ability of the US government to apply fiscal stimulus as commented on here...

For the US, we find the impact multiplier is 0.64 and the long-run cumulative multiplier is 1.19. While these estimates are certainly closer to Romer’s than to Barro’s, they mask some important structural changes over the sample period. When estimating the multipliers for the pre-1980 period, we get considerably larger numbers than the post-1980 multipliers. The post-1980 multipliers are just 0.32 on impact and 0.4 in the long-run. This is certainly a far cry from the impact multiplier (1.05) and long-run multiplier (1.55) used in the Romer report.

Who knows why this is the case? I suspect that it is difficult to 'fool' the markets with fiscal spending since essentially what is going on is that the government is taking from one group of people through taxes or borrowing and spending it on another group of people and not achieving anything.

Basically, it says that if one is in a floating exchange rate environment, such as in the US, one cannot expect much gain from fiscal stimulus. And as the researchers have concluded.....

Conclusions

Our findings lead to the usual “it depends” answer to the size of the fiscal multiplier question. As those familiar with macroeconomic theory likely anticipated, the size of the fiscal multipliers critically depends on key characteristics of the economy (closed versus open, predetermined versus flexible exchange rate regimes, high versus low debt) or on the type of aggregate being considered (government consumption versus government investment). Policymakers would therefore be well-served in taking into account a given country’s characteristics in evaluating the benefits of any fiscal stimulus package.

It just seems to make sense that it is difficult to get something going from nothing. Other things are impacted negatively to balance out the impacts of the short-term stimulus.

As argued early this year, the Axelrod administration forced through a fundamentally flawed stimulus bill with a massive price-tag of $787 billion that will have assisted the economy to have turned unemployment by this time. How did it do? doesn't seem like much help.

But of course, the administration argues that they didn't realize how bad the economy was. So if they cannot understand how bad the economy is then how are they going to perform when they meddle in healthcare and in energy.
And of course, the current government meddling in healthcare that is moving through congress now, promises to be the biggest mess ever created by a government. Can one say Zimbabwe?

Thomas Carper (D.-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not “expect” to read the actual legislative language of the committee’s health care bill because it is “confusing” and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people.

“I don’t expect to actually read the legislative language because reading the legislative language is among the more confusing things I’ve ever read in my life,” Carper told CNSNews.com.

Civility in politics....... Why?

We have heard incessant bleating and whining by liberals that if one does not agree with the presently proposed Marxist healthcare and other plans offered and debated by Congress, we are told that opposition to this is nothing but racism against a black President. See, no one that is white is supposed to have an opinion since the President is black. Wow. OK, so STFU. We are all racists now. Its idiotic.

And since a significant proportion of the electorate is also not so pleased on the direction of country, the massive power grab going on in Washington and the wild-eyed spending going on, the mood and debate is has become understandably nasty. At least I can understand. So what is the left whining about now? That the tone of the debate being so nasty is a risk to the President for being assassinated. Let this sink in... 'a black President being assassinated'. Wow, do you really think so? All of this is just massively stupid. The liberal bozo Thomas Friedman has this to say equating the assassinationn of Israeli PM Rabin with the current animosity in the politics in the US...

And in so doing they created a poisonous political environment that was interpreted by one right-wing Jewish nationalist as a license to kill Rabin — he must have heard, “God will be on your side” — and so he did.

Oh really? So be nice. Was anyone worried about this when Bush was President? No. There was even a movie made about the assassination of President Bush (Death of a President) a few years back. Where was this clown Friedman when that was going on? As this thought sums it....

Most of us struggle with the temptation to employ double standards, to cloak political agendas in the language of moral concern and outrage. Some individuals do an admirable job resisting that temptation. Others, like Tom Friedman, do not. He would have a lot more credibility now if he had actually spoken out before.

I do not believe that the Obamessiah is a wimp but clowns like Friedman that feel it is necessary to defend him using these tactics will further eviscerate this fellow. Although I do not think that he is even remotely worthy of the position of President, apparently the left thinks the same thing since they feel compelled to defend him using the silliest of methods. So Liberals have to wander around worrying that someone is going to assassinate this President in addition to all white folks being racists. Ack.

There are several problems with all of this:

1. The Presidency is not a cult of personally. If one is killed so what? A tragedy but no the end of the world
2. Americans should not be subject to squashing of dissent even if it is nasty. Nastiness is not violence.
3. The nastiness is not only by the political right. There is a nastiness that seems to be acceptable by left that is perpetrated against those that do not agree them. So it cuts both ways. "If it was acceptable before, presumably it should be acceptable now.

And as far as nastiness is concerned, remember these words of wisdom from me.....
